EXPO 58 was originally built as part of the Czechoslovak pavilion for the Brussels World’s Fair in 1958, where it won the International Architecture and Design Gold Medal for its innovative mixture of modern technology, architectural design and function. The buildings creators—architects František Cubr, Josef Hrubý and Zdeněk Pokorný—initiated a new style in architectural design, “the Brussels style”, which significantly influenced the Czechoslovakian architectural scene.
